The introduction to my book is done.
I've got the essential material for the first and possibly second chapters done... "right/wrong, good/evil, etc.", and "religion and Christianity", and I have a good chunk written up on war and warfare. Sexual ethics, gay rights, abortion rights, and the sanctity of voting need to be fitted in, and somewhere along the line, I have to make sure I've done a basic "how to stop people from bullshitting *you*, since there's no way in hell you can stop people from bullshitting."
I'm definitely hitting the 'folksy' tone, which isn't bad, but it still makes me wince, sometimes. Then again, that's what editing is for.
Sooner or later, I'm going to need some help... people who can help me by answering some questions, or help me with the editing, and this book is either going to need a damn good literary agent, or a hell of a patient editor who's an actual editor, rather than being part of a publishing house's marketting team, whose job it is to reject anything not formulaic and easily salable.
Of course, this all ignores the fact that, even if an unknown can get published writing a book like this, the odds are high that it'd flop anyway.
But, then, the alternative is giving up. And, having the book written might be good in and of itself.
Apologies for the quiet from this corner of the universe. I've been busy and stressed.
