Pizza and exercise [Oct. 27th, 2008|04:06 pm]
So, in case anyone wanted to know, if you take about half a largish onion, 6 crushed garlic cloves, and a mess of chopped chanterelles, and cook them in a bit of olive oil until they shrink up and the flavors blend, and use them to top a Papa Murphy's cheese pizza, along with anchovies, you'll end up with a heck of a flavor treat.

Exercise news: I'm now semi-enjoying my gym membership, and went swimming once last week, and used the ellipticals twice. Today, I got an early start and went swimming this morning.

I can swim for about 25 minutes without thinking I'm going to die. On the ellipticals, I'm doing intervals for the moment, hoping to strengthen my heart. One minute at high intensity, then 3-5 minutes lower intensity, until I've done five intervals. A recent study showed that, over the long term, this can be as helpful as 30-40 minutes of moderate intensity, and since my moderate-intensity workouts never really helped my heart get that much stronger, I'm giving this a shot, and mixing it with the swimming (and possibly other, more moderate workouts) to see what happens.

I'm hoping that in a few weeks (worst case) it means I no longer feel quite so tired after working out.

I want dinner at your house!

Either that or I need to drive over to Corvallis next Saturday and see if the mushroom foragers are there...
