Probable pop-culture fail... [Mar. 29th, 2010|03:14 pm]
On a lark - yes, I do spend a fair amount of my time on small songbirds, sometimes - I thought about looking up that TV series I'd heard a lot about - about that newspaper (or the overall news business) somewhere back east. Maryland, maybe?

The show was, I thought, "The Wire". Which isn't about the news business at all.

Can someone help me determine if this is, in fact, the show that I'd heard about? I'm guessing it probably was, unless there was another series with highly devoted followers that's recently ended, and was about the news business.

(Don't ask me *why* I thought "news" - maybe it was just the title. "The wire", coupled with a large, diverse background does tend to make one think news business. "This just came in over the wire! Send someone to investigate!")

One of the seasons of The Wire dealt pretty heavily with the Baltimore Sun and its coverage of crime news. Furthermore, the book the TV show was based on grew out of a year long reporting assignment to the Baltimore Police homicide division.

In any case, it's well worth watching. Check it out.

Ah, thank you! That ties it all together in a way that makes sense :-).

The last season of The Wire concentrated on the news business, along with the core elements of crime and policing. And it's set in Baltimore.

There might be other TV shows about newsrooms that I don't know about.

Thank you! That explains my confusion. (Not that my confusion necessarily requires explanation....)
